Cooking mackerel with apples:
Step 1: prepare the fish.
First of all, you need to gut the mackerel, remove the gills and fins and rinse from all sides. If you don’t know how to do this, then just buy already peeled fish (but be sure to check the gills, they will most likely have to be cut independently).
Gut the cleaned and washed mackerel and dry with disposable paper towels. Salt and pepper the fish inside and out, spreading spices with your fingertips.
Step 2: prepare the apple and onion.
Lay out in front of you a piece of foil twice as large as the fish and another plus five centimeters from each edge.
Peel the onion, cut into half rings or feathers and spread in the middle of the foil sheet.
Rinse the apple, towel dry, peel the core and twigs, then cut into thin slices and lay on foil over the onions.
Add vessels of the same bay leaves.
Step 3: bake mackerel with apples.
Lay the previously prepared mackerel on top of apples and onions. Wrap the ends of the foil a little to the top. Add white wine and butter.
Wrap foil tightly with mackerel and apples inside. Transfer the resulting bag to a heat-resistant baking sheet and send everything to the preheated 190 degrees oven on 25 minutes.
After the specified time, get the mackerel, carefully open it, not forgetting that as soon as you open the foil, you will release the burning steam, and there is also a lot of juice that does not need to be splashed. It can be seen that the fish was perfectly baked, as were apples and onions. The aroma will be just amazing. Serve the mackerel with apples to the table as soon as it has cooled.
Step 4: serve the mackerel with apples.
Place sliced onions and apples baked with fish on a serving dish, put the mackerel on top of them and pour the juice that has accumulated in the foil over everything. Put a suitable side dish on a plate and serve everything as a main hot dish.
Baked mackerel with apples can be not only an everyday dish, but also quite a holiday. The sweet and sour taste of apples, combined with onions, perfectly complement fatty mackerel, so this is definitely a must try.
Enjoy your meal!
- If you want to surprise someone, you can serve a mackerel with apples on the table right in the foil, not printed. But it is worth warning that there is hot juice inside the foil and you need to open it carefully.
- Mackerel goes well with red wine. In case you decide to cook this fish for the festive table.
- As a side dish for mackerel, baked or boiled potatoes, mashed potatoes are ideal.
