Mackerel boiled in onion peel


Ingredients for cooking mackerel boiled in onion husks

  1. Mackerel (fresh or fresh-frozen) 1 piece
  2. Water 1 liter
  3. Salt 5 tablespoons
  4. Onion husk optional

Cooking mackerel boiled in onion husks:

Step 1: prepare the mackerel.


First defrost the mackerel completely, leaving it at room temperature for several hours. Then the fish need to be cleaned. Here, everything is simple for a mackerel, you need to gut it, not forgetting to scrape the walls of the abdomen from the inside, and also clean it of films, cut off the fins, as well as the head and tail, if because of them the carcass does not enter the pan. Then rinse the fish with cold water and dry it at the very end with disposable paper towels. That’s all, you don’t have to clean with a knife, from which then scales throughout the kitchen.

Step 2: prepare the onion peel.


To prepare this dish I needed to completely clean 6 onionsbut I had where to put them right away so that they would not weather. And so I recommend using only the topmost husk so as not to leave the onion flesh uncovered. The collected husk should be washed thoroughly with cold water, and then slightly wrung out.

Step 3: cook the mackerel in onion peel.


Put the prepared onion husks in a pan, fill with water, add the right amount of salt and bring to a boil. Then turn down the heat so that the liquid does not boil too much and cook for 5 minutes.
In a boiling brine with onion peel, dip the peeled mackerel and cook the fish 3 minutes, no more no less. Add fire so that the liquid boils all the time, but does not splash. Also make sure that the fish is completely covered with water.
Remove the boiled mackerel from the pan, cool a little and clean from the adhered husk.

Step 4: serve mackerel cooked in onion peel.


It remains only to bring your mouth-watering mackerel, cooked in onion husks, to the table. Please note that the fish took on not only the color of the brine, but also the aroma, and therefore it turned out to be just amazing. Prepare an equally delicious side dish for such a wonderful fish and rather call everyone to the table, it's time to start dinner.

Recipe Tips:

- To cover the fish you may need more than the liter of water indicated in the list of ingredients, in this case, do not forget to add also more salt and onion husks.

- To cook mackerel according to this recipe, only good quality fish is suitable, because frozen or frozen and thawed several times can simply fall apart in boiling water.

- If you have only a small saucepan, cut the mackerel into portions before cooking it in the onion husk.
