Cooking baked mackerel with onions:

Step 1: prepare the mackerel.

For cooking, take chilled mackerel. If necessary, first defrost it, leaving it for a while in the sink at room temperature. Then wash the fish and carefully, with a sharp knife, cut off the head.

Then, gently breaking the belly, remove all the entrails from the fish and additionally lightly clean it from the inside with a knife blade. After cleaning, the mackerel should be washed again and then wiped dry with disposable paper towels.
Salt the prepared fish and sprinkle with a special seasoning, rub the spices with your palms, distributing them inside and outside the mackerel. Leave everything as it is to marinate on 20-30 minutes.

Step 2: prepare the lemon.

Rinse the lemon before halving it. After, cut a piece of fruit into thin slices - semicircles.

Step 3: prepare the onion.

Cut the onion into two equal parts. Remove from each husk and cut the vegetable into thin half rings.

Step 4: we stuff and bake mackerel.

Cover the baking dish with foil, and set the oven to warm up to 200 degrees. Place the lightly pickled mackerel into shape, making a few shallow cuts on each side. Put the lemon inside the fish, and insert the onion half rings into the cuts. On top, grease the carcasses of the fish with mayonnaise or sour cream, as desired. Sprinkle the seasoning with fish seasoning and, for example, herbs. Place the mackerel pan in the oven and bake until fully cooked for 25-30 minutes. During this time, the fish will be covered with a delicious golden crust and begin to publish a wonderful aroma of seasonings and onions, this will be a signal that it is time to take out the form and serve the finished dish to the table.

Step 5: Serve the baked mackerel with onions.

Baked mackerel with onions can be served hot, immediately after cooking, or in cold, after it has stood a little and has cooled. Cut each fish into portions and arrange on plates, adding a light vegetable side dish.

Recipe Tips:

- To taste, you can add finely chopped fresh herbs.

- Mackerel looks very appetizing if you serve it on a fresh sheet of fat, spreading pickled onion rings around.

- It is not necessary to lubricate the mackerel with mayonnaise or sour cream, since the fish itself is fat and very juicy.
