I had a frozen banana that I used in this smoothie which eliminated the need for ice. I also do not keep cream of coconut on hand but I did have some fat free evaporated milk--I used that and a half teaspoon of coconut extract. Very tasty smoothie. I'm glad that it didn't call for additional sugar because it was plenty sweet on it's own. Has a "tropical" feel to it. I liked this smoothie a lot.-26 Mar 2012

I loved this smoothie - but you need to like coconut to enjoy it. The kiwi added just the right amount of tartness to this drink. Made it for my breakfast and it hit the spot. Thanks for sharing.-28 Mar 2011

Hello from sweltering hot Minneapolis! We are on day 9 of a heat wave, and I&rsquom making every effort to eat food that doesn&rsquot require an oven.

This vegetarian cucumber smoothie happens to be the perfect thing to enjoy on a hot summer day! Some (hilarious people) might say it keeps me cool as a cucumber -). Not only can I whip it up without heating up my kitchen, but it&rsquos also full of hydrating and refreshing ingredients.

I used crunchy cucumber as the base, sweetened it with banana and pineapple, and added some spinach for good measure. Plus, I threw in some chia seeds for protein and used mint, lime juice, and coconut for flavor. It&rsquos so yummy!

How to Make a Smoothie

Learning how to make a smoothie is simple! There are two biggest things that I have learned will give me the best results: the blender and the order of ingredients.

The Best Blender for Smoothies

I&rsquoll just come out and say it&hellipI&rsquom a HUGE fan of the Vitamix. I got a refurbished Vitamix blender several years ago and it is one of my most-used kitchen appliances. It&rsquos a bit of an investment, but if you want to learn how to make smoothies that actually have a perfectly smooth texture, you&rsquoll need a nice blender.

How to Properly Load Your Blender

The second most important thing to know when learning how to make smoothies is the right order to put your food in as you add it to the blender. If you put protein powder first, then milk, for example, the powder will clump and stick to the bottom.

  • First, always add your base liquid (milk, juice, water, etc)
  • Next add your smaller ingredients like sliced bananas or frozen spinach.
  • Top with large frozen items such as wedges of frozen pineapple, iced cubes, etc.

Basically, make sure the liquid is at the bottom and the heavier items are at the top and you&rsquove got how to make a smoothie down!

Relax back, close your eyes and imagine the sandy beaches beneath your toes with beautiful palm trees waving in the wind and cooling you off. Any drink that can take your mind to relaxation and have you thinking about vacation is the kind of drink we ALL crave!

Benefits of pineapple include high amounts of vitamin C, vitamin A and manganese. These important vitamins and minerals will boost the immune system, nourish hair and cleanse the body. Pineapple, whether fresh or frozen, is the only known source of bromelain – a protein-digesting enzyme that research shows to have anti-inflammatory properties that may alleviate symptoms of osteoarthritis, sinusitis and asthma help heal injuries and inhibit. Pineapple may help counter colitis and therefore could prevent colon cancer.

Yogurt contains good for you bacteria that can help your digestive track. Yogurt is also said to prevent high blood pressure. One serving contains a significant source of vitamin B5, B12, riboflavin, iodine, zinc, potassium and phosphorus. Getting a healthy dose of vitamin B12 will help maintain red blood cells and help to keep your nervous system functioning properly. This is a great source for vegetarians, something that I had to learn on my own when I stopped eating meat that was rich in vitamin B12. Yogurt can be a good source of vitamin D (check brand) which helps boost calcium absorption.

The benefits of honey are great and have an amazing effects on health! The benefits of honey make nearly everything better. First, honey is great as a replacement for sugary sweets. Sugar and artificial sweeteners do more harm than good. Honey is a natural sweetener. To make this drink very healthy, opt for RAW honey that is unpasteurized. Raw honey has antibacterial and anti fungal properties. Honey is great for suppressing cough, soothing burns, heals wounds and aids in sleep. Honey is great for boosting the immunity as it has antiviral properties that may fight sickness.

To make this flavor packed drink, simply cut a fresh pineapple into chunks, removing the tough brown skin and hard centers. Place 2 cups chopped pineapple in the blender with 1/2 cup pineapple or orange juice. If you’re feeling spontaneous, try different juice mixes to add or simply use what you have. I love using all of Minute Maid’s juice mixes. Orange juice adds even more flavor to this refreshing pineapple smoothie.

Now, turn the blender or mixer on for about a minute and blend until smooth. Add half a banana (I pre-chopped mine), yogurt and honey. Place lid over the top and blend until smooth. If you like coconut, cut a coconut in half and use the fresh milk inside. About 1/2 is a good amount, but this totally optional.

To make this drink extra cold, add about 1 cup of ice to the blender and chop it up really finely.

If you’re looking for tropical vibes, I’m sending them your way!

Are frozen fruit smoothies healthy?

They totally can be! Here’s the deal though, if your fruit smoothie is just fruit + some sort of liquid (think: water, almond milk, coconut water, etc.), you’ll obviously get in a good dose of fruits (which is great), but you’ll be hungry in 30 minutes and miss out on SO many nutrients that you can *so* easily sneak into a smoothie. Making a smoothie at home vs. buying one is also a good way to ensure it is healthy! You may be surprised to find that the smoothies you regularly buy are packed with added sugar and juice, and missing the components that make a well-balanced meal.

We think the healthiest frozen fruit smoothie is a well-rounded one – meaning, one that also includes a leafy green (you won’t taste it, we promise!), and a good dose of fiber, protein, and healthy fat! These smoothies keep you fuller longer, are way more nutrient-dense than a fruit-only smoothie, and help keep your blood sugar from spiking.

How to make the good mix

For a 2 serving smoothie, I exploit the 2-2-Three technique for mixing. That means 2 cups of leafy greens, 2 cups of liquid, and three cups of fruit. You can combine + match your leafy greens inside these 2 cups in addition to use a wide range of fruits to give you Three cups.

For instance, the #1 price greatest smoothie ever makes use of 2 cups of spinach, 2 cups of water, and three cups of fruit (a mixture of pineapple, mango, banana) for a 2 serving smoothie.

If you’re simply making 1 serving of smoothie, then half the smoothie system: to 1 + 1 + 1.5.

How to mix a smoothie

Once you’ve collect and measured your components, it’s time to mix! First, add the leafy greens then liquid to your blender. Blend till there are not any leafy chunks. Depending in your blender, this would possibly take 10 seconds or 60.

Then add the remaining components and mix once more till easy. If you need that refreshing smoothie to be chilly, ensure at the very least 1 of your fruit components is frozen.

I typically increase my smoothies with plant primarily based protein powder or superfoods to present my physique the most advantages I can.

Pro smoothie tip: by including protein + wholesome fats to your smoothie, you may keep full longer + not get a sugar crash from the pure fruit sugar.

Leafy greens like spinach or kale, fruit like pineapple, mango, banana, and berries. If you desire a liquid base aside from water, then purchase (or make) dairy free milk like almond milk or oat milk.

There are so many nice liquid bases for smoothies. I hold all mine dairy free, to keep away from upsetting my abdomen. My fav bases are water, coconut water or nut milk corresponding to almond or cashew.

Both! It relies on the smoothie, actually. I like to make use of water (or coconut water) when mixing tropical fruits, and milk when including components like cacao, dates, cinnamon, or cauliflower.

The best smoothie system is that this: mix liquid + leafy greens first, till there are not any chunks. Add remaining components to blender and mix once more till easy. If you desire a chilly smoothie, ensure so as to add at the very least 1 frozen fruit.

Island Luau Tropical Smoothie

I’ve professed my love for smoothies plenty of times on this blog but I feel the need to say it again, I freakin LOVE smoothies!! I blame you all for getting me temporarily hooked to Jamba Juice last year. Luckily the addiction wasn’t as strong as my McDonalds real fruit smoothie addiction and I was able to kick it within a month.

Just dump and blend! Gotta love easy smoothie recipes!!

Mainly because Jamba Juice is so easy to recreate at home with so many cloned recipes floating around the web. If I was to ever have a little cafe I would serve up smoothies and wraps. I’m the queen at making a good smoothie and a banging wrap honey! Try me!! Today I want to share with you this easy, refreshing, delicious recipe for an Island Luau Tropical Smoothie.

I simply adore cream of coconut!! I put it in ice cream, cocktails, cakes…love it!!

I made this a couple years ago when I had a family luau. I wasn’t expecting it to be that great just needed something quick, cold and refreshing to serve up to guests who arrived 2 hours early. This smoothie hit the spot and got rave reviews. Everyone claimed it had “a little something in it” because it left them feeling rather bubbly. My family is always claiming drinks has a lil sum sum in them lol. I think we’re wanna-be lushes.

My perfect smoothie texture: Creamy and icy!

Anywho, about this tropical smoothie!! It’s the bomb. So make it, m-kay. I just love that slight hint of sweet coconut that the cream of coconut lends to this drink. The frozen strawberries, bananas and mangos are like a match made in heaven. Next time I think I’ll throw in some papaya! Oooh lala!! I’m really not an orange sherbet person but in this smoothie it WORKS and it’s a must to kick up that yummy tropical flavor.

These make fun, girl-talk drinks!

I’d almost want to call this a dessert smoothie because it’s sweet, thick and pretty filling.

I made this once using pineapple juice and frozen pineapples because it totally seems like a winner right? Me no likey! Something about the pineapple and orange juice left a weird aftertaste. I replaced them both with apple juice and yasssss ma’am it was just what this smoothie needed. Whodathunkit!
