Whole Foods Rolls out Amazon Prime Discounts in Advance of Price Hike

You can now scan your Amazon Prime account for discounts at checkout in 23 states and counting.

UPDATE: Amazon continues to roll out their new Prime-member-based Whole Foods rewards program in advance of the June 16 membership price hike. Starting tomorrow, June 13, Prime-centric benefits will become available within Whole Foods stores across 23 different states. Members will get an extra 10 percent off all sale items in stores as well as exclusive offers on many different products.

New areas where Prime members can save while shopping at Whole Foods include Alabama, Arizona, Georgia, Hawaii, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee and Washington. As previously reported, Prime benefits have been made available at all Whole Foods Market 365 stores across the nation.

Some of the first deals available to Prime customers at Whole Foods include a sale of fresh peaches at just $1.99 per pound, yellowfin tuna steaks at $15.99 per pound, buy-one-get-one free on Annie's Natural Macaroni and Cheese, and 50 percent off bulk tea cookies available by the pound on June 15.

Right before canceling the old Whole Foods rewards program for shoppers, Amazon not-so-subtly tested promotional signs for Prime-member discounts in one Austin location that ended up alerting some shoppers to their new rewards program. But before the e-commerce giant officially confirmed the new Prime-centric rewards for loyal Whole Foods customers, they also upped the cost of being a Prime member to $120 annually.

Which is why we're not surprised to see Amazon rolling out new Prime perks, now available in more than 120 Whole Foods locations across 12 different states, before the new subscription rate kicks in on June 16. Industry analysts are speculating that Amazon is speeding up the deployment of the Whole Foods rewards program to help ease the blowback of raising subscription prices, Fast Company reports.

Starting today, the Prime member perks, which include an additional 10 percent off all sale items and weekly specials, are available in stores located within Arkansas, Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Missouri, Louisiana, New Mexico, Nevada, California, Oklahoma, Texas, and Florida, which was the first state to enjoy pilot testing of the new program.

The new rewards system involves a procedure already commonplace at other major national retailers—scanning of a rewards card, which, in this case, is the shopper's Amazon Prime account available on their mobile phones or synced to their phone numbers. Within 24 hours of Amazon's decision to test the program in Florida, the Whole Foods app required to take advantage of these discounts became the 18th most downloaded app in Apple's App Store, Yahoo reports.

In addition to reports of Amazon products infiltrating the aisles of Whole Foods' nationwide, the Prime rewards program at Whole Foods means you'll see Prime representatives in Whole Foods stores sooner rather than later. Yahoo reports that they'll be there to answer any questions that customers might have about Amazon's tie-in into the grocery store, and most likely will try to convince loyal Whole Foods shoppers to sign up for Amazon's ever-growing membership program, which currently has more than 100 million subscribers across the globe.

Everywhere Amazon Offers Two-Hour Whole Foods Delivery

Amazon&aposs acquisition of Whole Foods in 2017 brought with it a number of notable changes to the supermarket chain. In addition to lower prices, special deals or discounts for Amazon Prime members, and Amazon Lockers popping up in stores, one of the more convenient additions to Whole Foods&apos offerings is the introduction of free two-hour delivery via Amazon&aposs Prime Now service.

The synergy between Whole Foods and its parent company makes fast𠅊s quickly as one hourlivery available to many customers around the country. While the rollout of this service nationwide wasn&apost immediate, Amazon is adding cities to its delivery footprint at a steady clip since the initial launch.

The two-hour delivery service is free for Prime members and one-hour is available for a $4.99 fee. (Orders must meet a minimum total of $35 to qualify for free delivery.) Additionally, Amazon has also introduced one-hour (free for Prime) and 30-minute ($4.99) curbside pickup in some locations as of summer 2018.

Here are all of the cities where Whole Foods and Amazon offer Prime Now delivery (and pickup, as indicated) so far:

Amazon’s acquisition of Whole Foods Market last year is finally paying off for Amazon Prime shoppers. Recently, the company announced that it’s expanding its Whole Foods Market Prime member discounts to all Whole Foods Market and Whole Foods Market 365 locations nationwide. The savings, which include 10% off sale items and other weekly price breaks, may help offset that recent membership price hike.

How to Save at Whole Foods Market with Amazon Prime

Starting June 27, 2018, Amazon’s Whole Foods Market discount for Prime members is available in all Whole Foods stores across the country.

Prime members will score an extra 10% off hundreds of sale items and get exclusive weekly discounts on select items storewide. They’ll also score these savings when they have their groceries delivered to their homes via Prime Now. (This service is currently available in select cities and promises free two-hour delivery on orders over $35.)

Eligible Prime members can also receive 5% cash back at Whole Foods Market when they use their Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Card.

Whole Foods Market will prominently display weekly Prime member deals with color-coded sale signs. Blue signs represent offers only available to Prime members. Yellow signs identify sale items that are eligible for the additional 10% discount. These savings will also be advertised through email and on the Whole Foods Market mobile app.

This week, Prime members can enjoy the following deals in addition to saving an extra 10% on sale items:

  • Baby back pork ribs, animal welfare rated and no antibiotics, $4.99/lb., save $5/lb.
  • Sockeye salmon, wild caught Marine Stewardship Council-certified, $13.99/lb., save $6/lb.
  • Organic red cherries, $3.99/lb., save $2/lb.
  • Organic yellow peaches, $1.99/lb., save $2/lb.

Is the Whole Foods/Amazon Prime Discount Available Where I Live?

Yes! Every Whole Foods Market and Whole Foods Market 365 store is now offering exclusive savings for Amazon Prime members.

A Whole Foods turkey discount too good to miss

Amazon Prime members will save big this Thanksgiving.

/>Skynesher/E+/Getty Images This story is part of 2019 Holiday Survival Guide , featuring tips on the best ways to manage the holiday season.

Thanksgiving is somehow already right around the corner, which means between stocking up on mounds of potatoes and prepping your kitchen for the impending culinary feast, it's possible you haven't actually gotten around to ordering the turkey. But no matter, because Whole Foods is offering a fantastic turkey day deal for Amazon Prime members.

From Nov. 13 through Nov. 28 (aka, Thanksgiving), Amazon Prime members can pick up organic whole turkeys for $2.99 a pound and whole turkeys for $1.99 a pound, while supplies last. That's a saving of about 50 cents per pound (to compare, for non-Prime members, whole organic turkeys clock in at $3.49 a pound, while whole turkeys are $2.49 a pound).

It may not seem like a lot, but those cents can quickly add up -- especially if you're looking to purchase a multi-pound bird. After all, it's generally recommended that every guest needs a minimum of one pound of turkey for the meal, so depending on how big your crowd is, you'll be saving at least 50 cents per person. And this deal is certainly a perfect excuse to put that extra change toward one (or two) extra desserts -- or Black Friday shopping, whatever holds your heart this Thanksgiving season.

Reserve your turkey in advance by heading to Whole Foods' online holiday market, then pop into your local store to pick it up. For Prime members, the discount will be applied at checkout. If you're not a Prime member and also haven't acquired a bird yet, have no fear: There are plenty of meal kits and turkey delivery services for the big day.

Amazon Announces Deep Discounts at Whole Foods for Prime Members

Amazon is sticking by its promise to cut prices at Whole Foods this week, announcing via press release that Prime members will receive an additional 10 percent discount on sale items and that they&rsquoll be creating a rotating list of best-selling items that will be slated for discounts.

The program has been launched in Florida at all Whole Foods stores and will expand to all other U.S. Whole Foods and Whole Foods Market 365 stores later this summer. Members can take advantage of the discounts by scanning their Whole Foods Market app at checkout or provide their Prime-linked phone number for savings.

“Our vision is that every day Prime makes your life better, easier and more fun, and shopping at Whole Foods Market with exclusive deals and savings is all of this and more,” vice president of Amazon Prime Cem Sibay said in a statement.

The news comes after Amazon announced a price hike for Prime membership by $20 a year, from $99 to $119.

To give you a sense of discounts to expect, here are some of the discounts available at Florida stores through May 22:

  • Sustainable wild-caught halibut steaks: $9.99 per pound, save $10 per pound
  • Organic strawberries: 1 pound for $2.99, save $2
  • Cold-brew coffee at Allegro coffee bars: 50 percent off 16 ounces
  • Kind granola: 11-ounce bags 2 for $6
  • 365 Everyday Value sparkling water: Buy one 12-pack case, get one free
  • Magic Mushroom Powder: 50 percent off

The discount joins other perks Amazon has added since the Whole Foods merger, like free two-hour grocery delivery in 10 cities and 5 percent back on the Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Card when swiped at Whole Foods along with reducing prices across the store.

More Benefits

Free same-day delivery: Members qualify for free same-day delivery on more than 1 million items if they order at least $35 worth of goods, as well as 1- and 2-hour delivery with Prime Now (available in select cities) on tens of thousands of items.

Amazon Prime Day: Every year Amazon holds a major two-day sales event that rivals Black Friday, called Prime Day. It typically takes place in mid-July, but it was delayed until October in 2020 because of the pandemic. And this year it's happening earlier than ever, in June. To access the sale, which includes discounts on Amazon devices and popular products across a slew of categories, you must be a Prime member.

Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature Card: The Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature Card gives card holders 5 percent back on purchases made on Amazon and at Whole Foods. If you don’t have a Prime membership, you get 3 percent back.

There are other benefits to using the card. You’ll get 2 percent back at gas stations, restaurants, and drugstores, and 1 percent back on any other purchases. There’s no annual fee, and if you use it while traveling, there are no foreign transaction fees.

Lightning Deals: Members qualify for early access (30 minutes before everyone else) to short-term, deeply discounted Amazon Lightning Deals that often feature high-tech and fashion goods.

Prime Video: Membership includes instant access to tens of thousands of movies and TV shows, including Amazon original series such as “The Man in the High Castle,” “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan,” “Homecoming,” and the Golden Globe-winning “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.” You can watch at home on your computer, Fire TV, or other compatible devices.

Amazon Music: Prime Music offers unlimited ad-free access to more than 1 million songs and thousands of playlists and stations.

Prime Photos: Secure unlimited photo storage in the Amazon Cloud Drive.

Prime Gaming: Members have access to a free Twitch channel subscription as well as free games and in-game items.

Prime Reading: This new service has replaced the Kindle Owners’ Lending Library. It gives Prime members access to over 1,000 books, magazines, comics, and more. All of these can be accessed on a Kindle or Fire tablet, or through the free Kindle app on both iOS and Android.

Amazon Pharmacy: A recent addition to the Prime benefits roster, this new service gives members a way to compare prices between Amazon and over 60,000 other pharmacies. You can either order directly from Amazon or use a Prime Rx Savings card at your preferred pharmacy.

Amazon Fresh: Amazon's grocery delivery service allows Prime members to order their groceries online. This service used to cost an additional $15/month but is now included in the cost of the full Prime membership.

Whole Foods: Like Amazon Fresh, Prime members can have groceries delivered from Whole Foods. But the two can't be combined into one single delivery because they're packaged in different places. Delivery is also free, but pickups can be scheduled as well. And Prime members can save an extra 10 percent off everything but alcohol whether shopping online or in-store. Plus, there are Prime-exclusive specials and sales.

Prime Now: With an Amazon Prime account, you can download a mobile app that allows customers in most parts of the country to shop from early morning to late night, seven days a week, for groceries, gifts, and food from neighborhood stores and restaurants. Delivery is free of charge within 2 hours or within 1 hour for a fee. For restaurant orders, delivery is free within an hour of ordering, and the service is available from Amazon-affiliated restaurants in select areas.

Amazon Family: The benefits include 20 percent off diapers through the site’s Subscribe & Save service and 15 percent off eligible products from your baby registry.

Amazon Household: Two adults living in the same household can create an Amazon Household to share certain Amazon Prime benefits and save money on membership fees. And you can add kids to the plan: Up to four teens and up to four children can be added. Teens can shop, but parents must approve purchases. Adding children allows parents to manage parental controls on Fire tablets, Kindle E-readers, and Fire TV through Kindle FreeTime.

Amazon Key: In 2017 Amazon launched Amazon Key, which allows couriers to enter your home to drop off packages even when you’re not there. Amazon also allows you to have packages delivered to your car as long as you have a Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC, or Volvo made in 2015 or later. The cars also need to have an active OnStar or Volvo On Call account, and the service is available in only 37 cities. While Amazon Key requires you to pay $220 for a home smart lock and camera, there's no installation charge to let couriers access the trunk of your car.

Amazon Day: Amazon added this feature to its Prime membership in 2019. Amazon Day offers consumers the option to schedule deliveries. If you know you’ll be home every Friday, for example, you can instruct Amazon to deliver all your packages that day. You can still choose to receive orders on other days and by one-day or two-day delivery if an item is needed sooner. This also allows Amazon to consolidate items into fewer boxes and cut down on the number of trips to your home, helping to reduce its carbon footprint. The company says it aims to make 50 percent of its shipments net-zero carbon by 2030.

Why Did Amazon Delay Prime Day 2020?

Amazon was overrun with orders when COVID-19 broke out in the U.S. in April. So much so that it had to deprioritize shipments of non-essential items. Fast forward to July when Prime Day 2020 was supposed to happen and the situation had worsened, so the retailer decided to delay Prime Day until October. This year Prime Day comes back to summertime. Amazon launched Prime Day in the summer in 2015. Apparently the idea was that many people who were searching for amazing online deals assumed the best — and only — time to score the greatest bargains was on Black Friday. The fall holiday season is indeed a super-busy time for retailers, but Amazon thought there were plenty of eager shoppers who would love to take advantage of another big sale in what was traditionally a slow time of year for sales. It wasn’t that long ago, but already Amazon’s Prime Day rivals Black Friday in the number of deals, the discount levels, and in the total dollars spent.

The Best Amazon Prime Day 2021 Air Fryer Deals So You Can Finally Understand The Hype

By now, you've hopefully heard that Amazon Prime Day is happening on June 21 and 22 this year. In the past, the two-day shopping event has always been held during the summertime and was only postponed in 2020 to the fall due to pandemic-related reasons. That being said, now that we know exactly when it's coming you need to be prepared especially if you're in the market for something as sought after as an air fryer.

First, you should know that Amazon Prime Day is an exclusive two-day event for Prime members that offers insane deals on all sorts of products: kitchen appliances, electronics, and sometimes even groceries from Whole Foods. Kitchen appliances are some of the best deals available on the day and last year with some going for over 30 percent off their usual price.

That being said, if you want to finally hop on the air fryer bandwagon (we're happy to have you!!) you should strategize for Prime Day. Whenever it happens air fryers will be one of the first things to go, so check back in on some of the top-rated brands available on the site like Dash, Chefman, COSORI, Cuisinart, and Instant Pot.

As the sales go live they may only be valid for a limited time so you want to act fast, add to cart, and patiently wait for it to get delivered to your door. Don't worry, though, once the discounts are posted we'll be updating this story with all of the best deals. Bonus: While you're shopping you might as well pick up a copy of our Party in an Air Fryer cookbook to get some recipe inspiration.

Amazon announced the dates of its highly anticipated Prime Day, a 48-hour sale featuring more than 2 million deals. Last year, we saw some of the best deals ever, especially on things like Amazon’s own devices, though, of course, not everything is a great deal. This year, Amazon Prime Day will take place on June 21 and 22. Here’s how to take advantage of all the sales.

Get a free 30-day trial of Amazon Prime (cancel anytime)
You’ll need to be a Prime member to score the best deals on Prime Day, as well as many of the deals Amazon releases ahead of the event. (Amazon Prime is Amazon’s subscription service that offers perks like free one- and two-day shipping on millions of items free access to thousands of TV shows, movies and songs exclusive deals, and more. You can score a free 30-day trial now (cancel anytime). If you don’t cancel within 30 days, you will pay $12.99 per month or $119 per year (if you’re a student or on government assistance, it’s even cheaper). Get the Amazon Prime free trial here.

Download the Amazon app and browser extension
This app is especially helpful during Prime Day to review upcoming deals and get notified when deals go live, experts say: “Make sure you download the Amazon app where you can build shopping lists, and install the Amazon Assistant browser extension which is very helpful for price history. You can even ask Alexa for help — sometimes there are Alexa-exclusive deals,” says Trae Bodge, smart shopping expert at TrueTrae. Download the app here and the browser extension here.

Get a $10 Amazon credit when you buy a $40 Prime Day gift card
Buy a Prime Day electronic gift card worth at least $40, and Amazon will put a $10 promotional credit into your account. To get this deal, you must use code GIFTFORPD21. Get the $10 Amazon credit here.

Shop early via Today’s Deals on Amazon
While there are plenty of Prime Day deals during Prime Day, Andrew Gretchko, vice president of communications at CouponCabin, says sometimes Amazon’s best offers aren’t limited to the shopping holiday. “Look for deals in the weeks leading up to Prime Day. Savvy shoppers will start to notice plenty of pre-Prime Day discounts,” says Gretchko. Get deals on Amazon now.

Get a $10 credit when you spend with select small businesses
Prime members get a $10 credit on Prime Day if they spend $10 or more at over 300,000 select small businesses between June 7-20. We expect other promotions like this to come soon. Shop small businesses here.

Earn a $5 Amazon credit when you sign up for, and fund, Amazon Cash
Amazon Cash lets you shop Amazon using a barcode even if you don’t have a debit or credit card. Right now, when you sign up and add $20 to your account via an ATM in the Allpoint+ network, you can earn $5 from Amazon. Get details here.

Use your Amazon credit card
If you sign up for the Amazon Rewards Visa Signature Card (only do this if you need the card and will pay it off in full each month), you can instantly get a $50 Amazon gift card the card also offers 3% cash back on Amazon and Whole Foods purchases and 2% back at restaurants, gas stations and drugstores. Note that this year, Amazon Rewards Visa Card or Amazon Prime Store Card users get an additional 10% back when they shop with small businesses. Get details here.

Make a list of what you actually want or need
“It can be helpful to make a list of what you might need if it’s on sale. If you’re not that organized, ask yourself honestly if you need the item or if you can use it before checking out,” says Bodge. To do so, Kristen Gall, retail expert and president of Rakuten Rewards, recommends looking at your future needs, like back-to-school items or summer vacation attire.

Come up with a plan
“Many of the most popular items on Prime Day sell out quickly, so it’s important to start the day with a plan and know which items you hope to buy. In some cases, the sales also start early, so you can get a headstart — just plan in advance and start checking prices so you’re able to grab the Prime Day discount as soon as you see it,” says Kimberly Palmer, personal finance expert at NerdWallet.

Pay attention to price trackers
Sara Skirboll, shopping and trends expert at RetailMeNot, suggests paying attention to price trackers like CamelCamelCamel or Keepa. “They’re going to monitor deals every day and every week throughout the year to make sure that Prime Day is really your best bet and the best time to spend money,” says Skirboll.

Look for deals during Prime Day on other sites
Other companies want to compete with Amazon during Prime Day: “Don’t forget that Amazon is not the only place to shop on Prime Day. You can shop at hundreds of other retailers and find great deals, in some cases even better. Last year, RetailMeNot found that there were over 350 retailers who participated in offering deals on Prime Day, not on Amazon. So pay attention to places like Macy’s, Kohl’s and Best Buy who all might be running their own deals,” says Skirboll.
